Nokia announced that the slimmest smartphone on the market, the Nokia E71x, will be available in AT&T retail stores and online beginning today. Priced at just USD 99.99*, this much-anticipated full QWERTY smartphone arrives at a time when one in two people surveyed** say they would prefer to communicate via text message or email over phone calls.
Internet security vendor, F-Secure says that it has detected the first known SMS based worm for mobile phones. In its quarterly update on the security issues faced by computer and smartphone users, the company noted that the biggest malware story of 2009 so far has been the Conficker (aka Downadup) worm. It is a classic worm exploiting vulnerabilities in Microsoft Windows, of the type that has not been seen in the past few years.
Dell has learned the hard way that wireless carriers still wield a ton of control in the wireless industry. It appears that unless you are Apple, Google, or even Palm, it’s not that easy to win the carriers over. After rumors spread earlier this year that Dell and other computer makers were entering the smartphone market, it now appears that the company’s first attempts will never see the day of light.
GETAC announced the latest addition of its rugged mobile computing products. The GETAC PS535F handheld is the company’s next generation, fully rugged GPS-enabled PDA featuring a built-in 3 megapixel auto-focus camera, altimeter and E-compass. These new features will enable field-based employees to capture field data on-site and transmit that data back to headquarters in real-time.
Today Asus has unveiled its PDA phone P835. The phone runs Windows Mobile 6.1 although it's unknown if it could be upgradeable to the newest 6.5 version.
