A host of words popularised on social networking sites likes Twitter, Facebook and MySpace have been added to the Collins English Dictionary.

The influence of Web 2.0 sites and good old fashioned instant messaging has been officially recognised with the addition of words like ‘meh’ – meaning disapproval or a lack of enthusiasm, ‘hmm’ – meaning to ponder, and ‘mwah’ – replicating the sound of a kiss.

OMG (Oh my god), WTF (what the f**k), woot (to celebrate) and noob (online newbie) have also made it in for the first time, as has Twitter (in both verb and noun form) in a total of 247 new additions.
