NTT DoCoMo incorporated a capability called “i-appli touch” in 11 of the 18 mobile phones that the company announced May 19, 2009, and are due out in summer 2009 in Japan.

When two handsets are approached to each other, the capability executes Bluetooth pairing using FeliCa technology. With this capability, it is possible to easily connect multiple handsets via Bluetooth just by holding one handset over another, eliminating the need to select and verify devices, for example.

NTT DoCoMo made the connection easy to promote the use of versus games and other applications based on short-distance communications. To gain more users, the company will emphasize the fact that gaming does not require any packet charges because it only uses a local area network.

Initially, applications supporting the i-appli touch capability include “Real Soccer: Touch Match (tentative title),” “Itsudemo (always) Tennis touch” and “Let’s Go Bass Fishing touch.”
