SMS delivery for Twitter-using Vodafone customers was announced late last week, but what happens if you’re not paying your hard-earned beans to Vodafone? O2, T-Mobile, Virgin, Orange and 3 Mobile customers.
There’s plenty of ways to send and receive tweets on your mobile, without flinging money at Vodafone for a new SIM card. Unlimited internet plans are a great way to explore the mobile web for next to nothing, and if you download a Twitter app, updating the micro-blogging service is even easier.
Twitter apps
We suggest downloading a Twitter client, or application, for your phone first. There are plenty available, some more suited to a particular handset than others. TwitterBerry for BlackBerry is easy to use, whilst Twidroid for your Android G1 is a breeze. iPhone users constantly rave about Twitterrific (though the free version is ad-supported), and Nokia owners should check out Twibble. Alternatively, Twitter’s own mobile site works like a dream, though you can’t send and receive direct messages.
O2 customers can ask for a data bolt-on package, which will set them back £7.34 a month. There’s a fair usage policy of course, and O2 also limits data charges to £1 a day to avoid nasty bills.
Virgin charges just 30p a day for unlimited internet access (with a fair usage policy of 25MB per day).
Boasting one of the lowest internet packages, 3 charges just £5 a month for both PAYG and contract users, on their Internet Max package. The fair usage policy means you can download just 1GB of data per month.
The Web ‘n’ Walk internet package is popular amongst users, and costs just £7.50 a month. New customers however (or those who joined before 1st December 2006), pay just £5 a month.
